What is the Boone County Council?

Great question!

The County Council is the fiscal branch of Boone County. They approve spending for county contracts and review the use of county funds. The Council appoints members to Boards and Commissions that receive County funding. They are also responsible for setting tax rates. 

There are seven members total, four representing specific districts, and three at-large.

Budget

The Council approves annual budgets for all county departments, including Highway, Health, and the Courts

Taxes

Tax rates, including property tax and local income tax, are established by the County Council

Certain Board and Commission members are appointed by the Council, including the Board of Zoning Appeals

County Council District 1

District 1 includes the main population center of Zionsville.
